NE Portland DEQ Test Station

Guthrie

Two people helped me during the car emissions process.

One person was in the front of the queue, directing me to Lane 4. I had to ask him to repeat what I needed to do, and he caught on quickly - explaining that I will have to open the door to get the automobile information listed on the affixed sticker - and that the payment process was simple.

Friendly and patient.

Then the second guy, who did the actual emissions testing and payment - refused to make eye contact. I indicated that I couldn't understand him as he was a bit hard to lipread (on top of not making eye contact). He still didn't make eye contact. Okay.

It was my first time going to a car emissions testing in about 20 years (living in NYC; who needs a car??) and I forgot how easy the process was. But still, it would have been nice to establish a more solid 'connection' for communicating the process.

Let's see how it goes in two years from now....
