Ah, the yuletide season. Where simple statements like "will you please pass the cranberry sauce?" amount to communication faux pas when uttered (or signed) across a large dining table. It has its own Wikipedia entry. It has a custom sign (“DEAF” + “BELLY”). It literally gets on some peoples’ skin, in the form of tattoos and printed sweatshirts, and under the skin as our consciousness. “Deafhood” is everywhere. But on September 24, we – an audience of 200+ - got the inside scoop straight from the hands of the British guy who invented the term.

Somewhere in Fremont, California, a pack of teenage underdogs are stirring. They can’t hear their opponents, but boy, can they throw them off-balance – with elaborate sign language for the “no huddle”, and the mettle of a warrior. Sports Illustrated (SI) has noticed them, and the California School for the Deaf (CSD)’s football team needs your votes by November 15 to vie for “Underdog” glory.

Like Hilary Clinton, she’s got her own Tumblr. Numerous outlets have crowned her “Hurricane Sandy’s breakout star.” She is a blogger's dream (one christened two of her top 12 signs as "Double Yoda" and "Roadside Sobriety Test"), with SNL skits rumored to be underway.

Mark your calendars! November 6 is election day. Today, we are 12 days from the most important civic duties: Voting. Anyone - hearing or deaf, knows that this election is … well, different. Maybe it’s because of the pesky 14-figure debt monkey on our back. Or maybe it’s because many of our unique rights within the deaf community could be at stake.

Almost-last, but not the least, DeafNation is nearing the end of its nine-city tour in Seattle this weekend. Haven’t had a chance to hob-nob with SuperDeafy, Sean Berdy, or Marlee Matlin at the Vegas DeafNation stop in August?
