The Giving Cypress, LLC

This non-profit coffee shop is also called the Sign Language cafe. It's based in Portland, OR is a shining example of what a truly Deaf-friendly establishment should be. As soon as you enter, you're greeted in ASL and into welcoming atmosphere that celebrates diversity, with signs explicitly welcoming BIPOC, Queer, and Deaf communities. What sets this cafe apart is their commitment to hiring Deaf baristas, while ensuring that hearing staff are proficient in sign language. This creates a seamless communication environment for all patrons. The cafe goes above and beyond with their adaptive technology, featuring voice-to-text devices at the cashier's counter that live transcribe all spoken communication. This thoughtful addition supports both Deaf and hearing customers, bridging any potential communication gaps. The internet connection is excellent, making it a great spot for remote work or study. They have ASL classes here, as well as Deaf Board Games and Trivia nights.
